This position is responsible for professional, administrative and supervisory work in the planning, organization, direction, coordination and effective execution of capital and maintenance work of the City's Department of Utility Operations. This position reports directly to the Supervising Mechanical Engineer, or a department administrator or director; however, extensive leeway is granted for the exercise of independent judgment in managing said activities. The nature of the work performed requires that an employee in this class establish and maintain effective working relationships with Directors and supervisory personnel in other City departments and divisions. Under the direction of the Director of Utility Operations, this position manages and leads the capital and maintenance planning of Utility equipment in accordance with established standards and procedures, within established budgets, with a focus on improving equipment reliability. The employee's responsibilities include budget development, project planning and scheduling work priorities; and follow up of general maintenance; work orders; assisting in developing and completing planned maintenance interruptions and preventive maintenance schedules that maximize equipment reliability and reduce costs. This position also assists in training employees in maintenance and repair of all Utility machinery and equipment while maintaining high levels of safety. Direct and indirect supervision is exercised over professional, managerial/supervisory, technical and clerical staff.
