Our company is expanding its global recombinant human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine production network by investing $650 million and adding a 225,000-square-foot building within the footprint of the Maurice R. Hilleman Center for Vaccine Manufacturing in Durham, NC. The new facility will be used to produce the bulk active ingredient for the HPV vaccine, comprised of fermentation, microfiltration/ultrafiltration, and chromatography steps. 

Approximately 614,000 people are diagnosed with certain HPV-related cancers each year. Our company manufactures the two HPV vaccines that are predominantly utilized to eradicate these cancers globally.  In recent years, countries around the world have enacted new or expanded HPV vaccination programs, which has created an unprecedented increase in global demand. The manufacturing facility in Durham will play a critical role in the network of plants that produce life-saving medicines and vaccines, including our HPV vaccines.

The Maintenance Scheduler will be key to an effective launch of the HPV Drug Substance Manufacturing Facility. As part of the project team, the Maintenance Scheduler will be responsible for creating the SAP master data and process design supporting equipment maintenance, instrument calibrations, spare parts development, and bills of material.  The role will also work cross-functionally to define the maintenance scheduling and shutdown strategy to optimize uptime within the facility.  Responsible for SAP transactions and change control activities including spare part lists and Preventative Maintenance (PMs) plans. Actively supports, participates and embraces an inclusive team culture including significant interaction with Operations, Planning, Automation, Technology, and other groups as required.

Must be flexible to perform all the following functions and other tasks, as needed:

  • Schedule routine and corrective calibration and maintenance opportunities to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and to optimize the effectiveness of operating equipment
  • Develop a schedule for all maintenance, calibration, validation, capital project work, and GMP cleaning for rolling shutdown windows
  • Utilize the computerized calibration and maintenance work order system (SAP) to review work requests, estimate labor, identify required stock and non-stock materials, ensure availability, track work orders to completion, and maintain equipment histories
  • Create, maintain, analyze and ensure accuracy of Plant Maintenance master data.
  • Develop and maintain, SOP’s, process documentation, training, master data change management, and delivery of end-user training. 
  • Identify and communicate improvement opportunities, and drive results
  • Function as the liaison to Operations, Supply Chain Planning, and Technology
  • Assist in creating and continuous tracking of our maintenance metrics, downtime tracking, and other KPIs
  • Lead, coordinate, and support area projects as needed
  • Participate in safety initiatives, Gemba walks, and safety investigations
  • Participate in internal and external audits and inspections
  • Provide input into the development of capital plans

Education Minimum Requirement:

  • Required: Associates degree in a technical field
  • Preferred: Bachelor of Science Degree in engineering, science, or related  field

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Two (2) years of relevant experience with a Bachelor’s Degree OR Four (4) years of relevant experience with an Associate’s Degree
  • SAP experience (or equivalent) related to plant maintenance and spare parts procurement systems
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities; strong planning, scheduling, and time management skills
  • Working knowledge of regulatory requirements in accordance with GMP manufacturing operations
  • Ability to work in a highly effective team environment
  • Strong communication (written/verbal) skills
  • Proficiency in computer systems and applications including but not limited to: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint) and CMMS Calibration/Maintenance Database Systems.

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Project management experience including change control and equipment qualification
  • Experience authoring PM/calibration job plans and management of spare parts/Bills of Material - SAP or similar
  • Installation, operation, maintenance and/or troubleshooting experience with biopharmaceutical manufacturing equipment
  • Experience in DeltaV, Plant Information (PI) and Manufacturing Execution System (MES).
  • Mechanical functionality and reliability knowledge (asset management)
  • Experience with planning/scheduling software applications such as Bio-G, MS Project, or Orchestrate
  • Six Sigma green and/or black belt certification
