Job Description

Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in science and engineering on behalf of national security. The Predictive Maintenance Program at LANL is seeking a Predictive Maintenance Engineer to oversee the program and provide PdM technologies to customers throughout the laboratory.


The successful candidate will provide guidance to teams that wish to establish a PdM program in their facility, providing training to PdM technicians, engineers and managers. You will also provide troubleshooting assistance through the use of PdM technologies. Currently, LANL makes limited use of PdM technologies and is looking to expand their use in this area to improve reliability and increase maintenance efficiency, and you will lead the effort. This will include working with facility and industrial-type equipment, as well as occasional work with specialized experimental equipment.



  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering discipline and 8 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience with Vibration Analysis and familiarity with CSI/Emerson Model 2140 FFT data collector and AMS Machinery Suite Software; Thermography, including Low-Voltage Electrical Testing; Flat Roof Surveys for moisture problems; Underground Steam/Condensate Leaks and Steam Trap function check
  • Ability to obtain Vibration Analysis Certification within one year of hire
  • Experience with Root Cause Failure Analysis
  • Ability to establish and implement a PdM Technologies Program and provide training to customers that includes technicians, engineers and managers
  • In-depth knowledge of and experience with facility or mechanical processes that include fully understanding and interpreting various mechanical documents, blueprints, documents and schematics
  • Ability to conceptualize and fully communicate major elements of predictive maintenance to both technical and non-technical personnel
  • In-depth knowledge of a large facility complex predictive maintenance policies, practices and procedures


Desired Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with Flir T640 IR camera and Reporter Software
  • Active Q Clearance (usually requires U.S. citizenship)
