The incumbent is accountable for directing and leading equipment life cycle engineering activities across Rocky Mount site operations including infrastructure, production and laboratory assets. The equipment reliability team; develops and maintains equipment specifications and maintenance strategies to ensure equipment reliability thereby reducing downtime and unplanned failures, assesses application of new technologies for robustness and efficiency, and develops long range asset life cycle master plans to include strategic project oversight. Accountable for resource and workflow management/prioritization as well as talent development, problem solving, coaching and feedback of the engineering staff reporting into them.
- Develop and maintain equipment master specifications to comply with all appropriate regulatory requirements including local, state and federal for both current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and non-GMP environments
- Responsible for recruiting, training and managing reliability engineers, planners, schedulers and CMMS specialist. Provide development opportunities, cross-functional training, mentoring and diversity with work assignments to staff, mediate and help resolve conflict and provide technical guidance. Accountable for quality of work performed. Implement resource management systems to direct activities to highest site priorities established in partnership with production and infrastructure engineering groups. Evaluate need for outside services and provide oversight of outside services
- Establish Asset life cycle master plans for all major equipment classes. Lead the evaluation of new equipment technologies that increase plant robustness, simplify labor utilization and produce efficiencies with a demonstrated ROI. Approve or suggest major equipment changes or improvements. Participate in capital projects definition and implementation.
- Manage site-based reliability activities to comply with Pfizer policies, guidelines and procedures. Ensure full implementation of GRP (Global Reliability Program) tools and initiatives. Develop predictive maintenance(PdM) and preventative maintenance (PM) programs that actively reduce loss of production time and capacity. Responsible for identifying the necessary equipment and systems to manage the PdM program. Responsible for identifying, tracking and reducing the impact of “bad actors” . Ensures failure modes and effects analyses (FMEAs) are completed for key systems and are established as a common practice throughout the site
- Provide technical support to engineering & maintenance personnel directed to the solution of plant machinery or equipment problems and recommend corrective actions. Develop recommendations for skills requirements of Maintenance personnel including appropriate training programs
- Responsible for compiling equipment maintenance metrics / reporting including monthly downtime report, equipment trending and failure report, mean time between failure (MTBF), PdM/PM results and trending failure and Engineering, Maintenance & Utilities (EMU) department quality action reports/ corrective and preventative actions (QARs/CAPAs) tracking
- Work with EMU functional area leadership on investigations to provide technical expertise from the equipment perspective and/or recommends corrective actions
- Lead change by applying lean principles and Continuous Improvement methodology. Responsible for implementing robust Six Sigma Method 1/Method 2 root cause analysis for major equipment failures
- Responsible for supporting capital projects to assure appropriate equipment reliability maintenance is established as part of the project (i.e. criticality assessment, PM, PdM, spare parts, and failure analysis as appropriate)
- Provides good judgment and innovation by utilizing and adapting a broad knowledge of engineering principles and practices acquired through progressive experience.
- Remain current in requirements of the ever-changing business environment inclusive of plan of record, capital budgeting and total cost of ownership including reliability.
- Provide support to regulatory inspections and projects
- Assist EMU director in budget and metrics development including identification of cost efficiencies
- Global responsibility for Rocky Mount site global engineering programs in reliability and technical standards. Represent site in all Pfizer Global Engineering forums and site network engineering community engagements.

- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or technical equivalent with 10+ years of relevant experience required
- Master’s Degree in Engineering or technical equivalent with 5+ years of relevant experience required
- Understanding of business functions (planning, budgeting, etc.), regulatory requirements, and environmental control.
- Strong oral and written communications skills.
- Previous supervisory experience required.
- Experience Implementing Predictive Maintenance Technologies (PdM)
- Certified Energy Manager (CEM) certification
- Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP)
- Ability to perform complex data analysis and develop/manage detailed programs.
- Ability to present plans and status updates to leadership and a broad range of stakeholders across the organization.
NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to travel infrequently as necessary to support global programs.
