Job Description

This Direct Hire position is located in the Smithsonian Facilities (SF).  The purpose of this position is to serve as Branch Chief of the Reliability Engineering Branch (REB). The Reliability Engineering Branch is made up of two groups - Life Cycle Management Group and Reliability Engineering Group.

  • Supervises a group of engineers and indirectly a group of engineering technicians through a subordinate supervisor.
  • Plans and carries out the full range of first-level supervisory and managerial authorities related to assigning work, setting and adjusting priorities, coordinating with other programs, providing management advisory services, technical work  direction, setting performance standards and evaluating subordinates, counseling subordinates, interviewing candidates and recommending selections for positions, hearing and resolving complaints, initiating disciplinary actions, identify training needs, recommending awards, and determining means to improve productivity of the staff.
  • Oversees the Reliability and Maintenance Engineering efforts to improve the overall reliability of SI facilities. Plans and applies best practices throughout the asset life cycle. Sees that engineering projects gather, examine and assess reliability data from observations, field studies, and collected historical data to identify problematic issues.
  • Oversees the Facilities Assessment Program, managing the development and continuous updating of facility portfolio and management plans. 
  • Prepares and delivers briefings and presentations that address maintenance reliability and continuous improvement projects, major recommendations for action and the commitment of resources.
