Job Description

The role of Maintenance Superintendent maximizes the plant's capabilities while minimizing production costs through regular and preventative maintenance of the plant's equipment. The Maintenance Superintendent manages a team of supervisors that support an overall goal of the plant to maintain specified reliability metrics. This role manages and oversees a variety of projects and budgets while balancing staffing and manpower requirements to achieve plant and organization success

Essential Functions

Manages and directs a team to ensure day to day tasks and operations are successful, efficient and are completed based off standard protocols. This includes but is not limited to:

  • Daily, monthly, annual performance review and monitoring
  • Progressive discipline process/documentation development and maintenance
  • Skill and career development
  • Schedule development as well as time card review and approval
  • Staffing analysis and determining staffing requirements
  • o Department or plant specific job training delivery or tracking

Create daily, weekly, monthly and annual plant schedules dictating:

  • Plant preventative and routine maintenance
  • Capital projects and plant turnaround activities

Collaborate with various departments including plant management to determine:

  • Determine hierarchy of maintenance projects
  • Develop short and long term departmental strategies to support overall plant performance objectives across operational areas
  • Capital project requests and strategies
  • Regulatory compliance and safety reporting/training
  • Audit and certification tasks and needs
  • Emergency and high priority projects

Improvement and expansion efforts

Develop and oversee departmental budget related tasks including but not limited to:

  • Itemize current/future year budgetary expenses and allocations
  • Recommend and provide analysis for capital and lease expenditure requests
  • Control expenses/minimize cost of known expenses while identifying and eliminating spend waste
  • Administer cost reduction tactics to control overall cost and spend
  • Assist with providing analysis and explanation of increased or unforeseen expenditures
  • Build product cost models and forecast reports/analysis

Review and approve department invoices

Addresses overall plant maintenance needs through the following non-inclusive task list:

Reviews plant equipment operational performance to ensure documented reliability levels are consistently met

  • Develop and present problem/issue analysis
  • Recommend cost-effective, high quality resolutions
  • Oversee the management of the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS)
  • Monitoring of inventory, supplies, equipment and spare parts usage to optimize utilization and cost
  • Analyze and evaluate trending best practices for implementation and integration
  • Continuing education opportunities and areas for improvement
  • Ensuring overall performance and protection of department equipment, hardware and supplies

Monitors the regular maintenance and updates of department operations and training manuals/documents

Create, update and distribute scheduled and ad hoc reports/working documents including but not limited to:

  • Department key performance indicators (KPI's)
  • Safety training and tracking
  • Warehouse inventory analysis
  • Human development strategy
  • Asset Utilization
  • Preventative maintenance compliance analysis

Overall project schedule adherence compliance

Promote and enforce safety-centered behavior especially with respect to:

  • Policies and procedures
  • Training and management activities assigned to the department
  • Continuous improvement exercises regarding proper usage of safety equipment
  • Obtaining contractor safety adherence

Plant overall organization and cleanliness (e.g 5S)

Additional duties as assigned by supervisor

Required Education and Experience:

High School Diploma

10+ years’ experience in a manufacturing plant specifically within the maintenance department

5+ years' of combined experience in one of the following roles

  • Maintenance Planner
  • Maintenance Supervisor
  • Maintenance Engineer

· 10+ years' total progressive supervisory experience

5+ direct experience with rotating equipment reliability programs required including Preventive Maintenance, Predictive Maintenance, Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) processes

Impeccable time and project management skills with demonstrated implementation success

Effective communicator, both oral and written

Proficient using Microsoft Office software especially Excel, Word and Powerpoint as well as JD Edwards 365 or similar enterprise resource planning (ERP) software

MP2 experience or similar asset management system

Computerized Maintenance Management System experience

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in an engineering discipline with an elevated preference in Mechanical Engineering

Carbon black or powder/solids chemical manufacturing industry experience
