Are you a Maintenance or Reliability Engineering (or other similar title that works on breakdown restoration of equipment or failure prevention) professional looking for a leadership opportunity at a progressive and stable organization? Do you routinely work over 60 hours per week in a high stress reactive environment? Do you wish you could work for a company where the mission resonates with you more than improving the company’s profit margin?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, this amazing opportunity may be just what you have been looking for. Central Arizona Project is a 336-mile-long system of aqueducts, pipelines, and pumping plants that delivers raw water to Central and Southern Arizona. The maintenance portion of the organization is +/-250 individuals and is charged with ensuring that CAP’s assets are available, reliable, and that the work is executed in a responsible and cost-effective manner. CAP Maintenance and Reliability Engineers work 4-10’s with some telework flexibility in a collaborative environment where team members are open to new ideas. CAP has a very low forced outage rate, below 2% most years. As well, CAP was designed with sufficient redundancy so that repairs can be planned, and outages can be coordinated without an overly restrictive operational usage rate. As well, at CAP, Water Control (Operations) is a partner with Maintenance and aims to operate the system within the designed operating context of the equipment and follow SOP’s.
CAP has an award-winning Maintenance and Reliability Program including:
• 2018 – North American Maintenance Excellence Award
• 2018 – “Best Asset Management Program” Reliability Web
• 2015 – “Best Leadership for Reliability Program” Reliability Web
Maintenance Control is the professional and engineering branch of the Maintenance Organization. Maintenance Control consists of Reliability Engineering, Maintenance Engineering, and Maintenance Planning. This position is for the supervisor of either the Reliability Engineering Team or the Maintenance Engineering team. There is already a supervisor on-board who can lead the other team depending on the particular skillset of the candidate selected through this process.
Reliability Engineering focuses on data.
This team consists of degreed Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, and Controls Engineers. There is also a CMMS Administrator and a Data Architect on this team. The group wants to know when, why, how, how often and the root cause of failures and breakdowns. They search for the most impactful failures and work to engineer them out either by installing new parts, implementing different maintenance strategy, participating on capital replacement projects, or through redesign or modification. Reliability Engineers perform Condition Assessments on our major equipment, trend degrading conditions, and forecast major refurbishment/replacement activities as required to ensure operational availability. They want to make failures happen less often or increase our Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF).
Maintenance Engineering focuses on equipment.
This team consists of ME Technicians who are senior tradesperson’s helping with troubleshooting and procedure development. The group also has degreed Maintenance Engineers for escalated troubleshooting, diagnostics, and Scope of Work development for major work. The ME Team works toward reducing the time equipment is down through thorough detailed procedures, ensuring accurate critical spare parts on hand, and ensuring the methods align with the particular failure mode. They work to bring equipment that is down back up as efficiently as possible or decrease our Mean Time to Return (MTTR).
Maintenance and Reliability Engineering teams are a partnership to ensure the best strategies are selected for our assets, ensuring procedures and scopes are effective, assisting with field troubleshooting and inspections, and ultimately have the shared goal of reliable and available equipment for our partners in Water Control.
