Principal Eng Mech Integrity 

This position owns and manages the equipment inspection program at the Kansas City site and serves as the site technical expert on corrosion, materials and applicable codes. This is a large, complex site that includes two active ingredient manufacturing plants, a waste treatment and incineration operation, a utilities operation and three large formulations and packaging plants. The site has a $30M maintenance budget and produces in excess of $3B in annual revenue.

The Mechanical Integrity Engineer serves as the owner and expert technical support of the Mechanical Integrity Program for the site. Responsible to determine appropriate inspection methods and frequencies for all applicable equipment (vessels, reactors, piping, scrubbers, pressure relief systems, etc.). Recommends solutions for inspection findings. Acts as an indirect leader by establishing programs and implementing processes to continuously improve site asset integrity. Informally leads internal and external certified inspectors.

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary responsibilities of this role, Mechanical Integrity Engineer, are to:

• Own and manage the mechanical integrity program for the site, including development of inspection and repair strategies for equipment and systems;
• Drive the development and implementation of inspection strategies per API 510/570/653 to minimize risk of equipment failures and process safety incidents;
• Develop and maintain equipment inspection procedures to optimize overall effectiveness as it relates to industry recommended practices and OSHA PSM guidelines;
• Serve as subject matter expert on American Petroleum Institute Inspection and repair standards and train others on their application;
• Perform Engineering and fitness for service evaluations per API, ASME, or applicable industry guidelines/standards;
• Serve as site materials and corrosion expert; providing technical support, including deployment of new materials, problem solving, specification reviews, and equipment fabricator and supplier audits;
• Design and implement corrosion testing programs, evaluate corrosion monitoring data, predict equipment life, and determine inspection intervals;
• Lead or participate in investigations/RCA on equipment failures as needed;
• Provide technical mentoring to Project Engineers, Plant Engineers, and Inspectors on key corrosion, inspection, repair, and equipment specification principles;
• Provide technical support for equipment installation or repair as needed;
• Conduct audits on equipment fabrication shops and suppliers to ensure compliance with Bayer standards and expectations.

Required Skills:

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or similar/related field;
• Technical expertise in metallurgy, inspection technology, corrosion and regulatory codes/standards compliance (API, ASME, NACE, ASNT, AWS, etc);
• Experience managing Mechanical Integrity programs;
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
• Strong decision making and problem-solving skills;
• Computer proficiency in Windows-based software;
• Strong safety ethic and mindset;
• Strong leadership skills including the ability to drive change, influence without authority, and to model the Bayer LIFE (Leadership, Integrity, Flexibility, and Efficiency) values are vital for success in this role.

Preferred Skills:

• 8 years of relevant engineering experience;
• American Petroleum Institute (API) Certifications;
• Knowledge of SAP and Meridium APM;
• Advanced American Petroleum Institute Training;
• Advanced Mechanical Integrity Training.
