Job Description

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Mechanic ensures equipment and facilities meet operating requirements and objectives. Responsible for troubleshooting and repairing breakdowns on plant equipment, machines and facilities as they occur, as well as providing preventive maintenance.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

  • Perform facility and manufacturing equipment evaluation, set-up and repair.  Includes: assessment, repair and preventive maintenance.
  • Perform maintenance, repair, and preventive maintenance activities and complete related documentation per the Standard Operating Procedures for building, manufacturing, packaging and other equipment (e.g. compressed air, HVAC, etc.)
  • Work in compliance with GMPs and safe work practices and procedures, using personal protective equipment and safety equipment as required.
  • Properly use personal protective equipment as required.
  • Identify, report and repair deficiencies on all mechanical, electrical and manufacturing equipment and systems throughout the plant.
  • Identify, source and order appropriate equipment parts.
  • Perform minor repairs including plumbing, painting, carpentry, minor fabrication (forming and welding) and other general repairs as needed in the facility.
  • Communicate daily maintenance activities with Plant Manager as well as update all daily logs.
  • On-call support is required per department “on-call” procedures. Weekend work and overtime will be required.
  • Maintain a preventive maintenance schedule for all plant equipment.
  • Work with plant management to assist in determining specs for the fabrication of plant equipment.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of new initiatives to improve quality and efficiencies in the maintenance department.

 

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Plus to have electrical certification
  • 3+ years’ experience in industrial maintenance
  • 3+ years’ experience in a GMP and/or FDA-regulated manufacturing setting preferred
  • Experience in a dairy processing plant is considered a plus

  • Must be able to operate safely all hand tools, power tools and other maintenance-related equipment.
  • Ability to perform building maintenance and ground activities in a proficient and timely manner.
  • Ability to conduct root-cause analysis on equipment breakdowns.
  • Able to lift and move heavy or awkward objects, visual acuity, manual dexterity, repetitive movements and work in a confined area. Must be able to lift objects up to 50 lbs.
  • Able to write coherently and clearly.
  • Ability to maintain a good attendance record is required.
  • Ability to maintain good planning and organizational skills.
  • Ability to maintain harmonious and effective working relationships with other employees and respond to general public complaints.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 50 pounds. 

 

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.
