We are currently seeking a talented individual for the position of Substation Maintenance Engineer I, II, III or IV. The successful candidate will perform studies, evaluations, and reporting of outage/failure data for Transmission, Distribution, and Substation systems. Provide development of system outage information databases and detailed analysis of outage/failure causes and effects. Provide investigation and recommendations for remedial action of substandard operational/design characteristics of system components. Make maintenance and asset replacement recommendations to meet reliability standards within established circuit performance improvement programs. Function as the project engineer for contracted maintenance activities on substation power equipment and smaller system betterment projects. Support daily substation construction and maintenance field activities. These include but are not limited to: review of electric tests on transformers, oil and gas circuit breakers, switchgear breakers, battery systems and other ancillary substation equipment.
Gathers, maintains, and continuously improves an asset database for all components of TEP’s transmission and distribution systems.
Completes a regular asset condition assessment of TEP’s transmission and distribution system.
Makes recommendations for the maintenance and replacement of transmission and distribution assets, largely based on the results of asset condition assessment.Additionally, evaluates/continues existing programs and develops new programs for the strategic replacement of these assets.
Conducts field investigation of failed and problem equipment, and works closely with Transmission, Distribution, and Substation personnel in acquiring failed equipment evidence needed to perform comprehensive reliability studies.
Works with database tools, including Maximo, Smallworld GIS, EMS, OMS, and ADMS to both record and extract system outage, failed material, and equipment specification and performance data for trending and reporting.
Conducts specialized studies for Substation / T&D related equipment regarding equipment performance, maintenance practices and equipment failure rates to ensure optimum system reliability.Experience with Root Cause Failure Analysis is preferred.
Demonstrates a commitment to reliability program strategies, and conducts effective communication, coordination, and team building skills in implementing reliability programs.Works collaboratively with T&D Planning, Engineering, Standards, System Operations, Resource Management Team, and Construction and Maintenance groups towards this goal.
Assists other engineering personnel with the integration of performance data into RCM and other maintenance strategies.Develops a working knowledge of Work Management and Maintenance Management systems within the company, predominantly Maximo. Must be competent in personal computer operation.
Demonstrates a working knowledge of material and construction methods for transmission and distribution systems, and will be able to apply this knowledge to computerized graphics or drawing systems. Autocad experience is desired.
Exhibits the ability to perform independent, comprehensive technical studies and make recommendations in a timely fashion.Demonstrates the ability to assess data from both a high level and detailed view. Will incorporate sound logic, viable alternatives, and budgetary guidelines into all studies performed.
Continuously learns of developments in technology that would lead to efficiencies in maintenance practices, or better quality data, and/or performance of equipment.
Reports to area Supervisor and performs other assignments as requested.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Level: Engineer I Job Description: Will have primary responsibility for small modification or revision projects. Will assist more experienced engineers in large projects. Will assist in the review and revision of material and design standards. Qualifications: Requires B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering with an emphasis in power related classes or a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in structural related classes, and less than two years’ professional experience in an engineering role. Requires close supervision and detailed instruction for tasks and expected results.
Level: Engineer II Job Description: Will have primary responsibility for medium sized projects and act as the project engineer/manager. Will assist more experienced engineers in large projects. May be assigned to perform technical studies as needed. May have several projects assigned at the same time. Qualifications: Will have primary responsibility for medium sized projects and act as the project engineer/manager. Will assist more experienced engineers in large projects. May be assigned to perform technical studies as needed. May have several projects assigned at the same time.
Level: Engineer III Job Description: Will have primary responsibility for medium to large projects and act as the project engineer/manager. May have several projects or studies assigned at the same time and may assist other engineers in large projects. Will direct the designs of technicians when necessary. Can represent TEP when meeting with other Companies or organizations. Qualifications: Requires two or more years of professional experience as an Engineer II. Is a self-starter and has developed good time management skills, completing all assignments on time. Has developed good leadership skills and is fully comfortable leading meetings and speaking in front of others. Requires technical guidance and supervision on non-standard project assignments.
Level: Engineer IV Job Description: Will have primary responsibility for projects of any size or complexity and act as the project engineer/manager. May be assigned to perform technical studies as needed. May have several projects assigned at the same time and may assist other engineers in large projects. Follows approved standards in design with minor modifications. Can represent TEP when meeting with other companies or organizations. Will assist in training of less experienced engineers or technicians. Qualifications: Requires two or more years of professional experience as an Engineer III. Is able to work independently on most projects but needs technical guidance on unusual or complex projects, and supervisory approval on proposed plans. Time management, technical knowledge, and economic consideration are exhibited in all assignments. Basic leadership skills have been developed.
