Job Description

Kinder Morgan, Inc. is one of the largest energy infrastructure companies in North America. We own an interest in or operate approximately 84,000 miles of pipelines and 157 terminals. Our pipelines transport natural gas, refined petroleum products, crude oil, condensate, CO2 and other products, and our terminals trans load and store liquid commodities including petroleum products, ethanol and chemicals, and bulk products, including petroleum coke, metals and ores.

This position is responsible for:

Providing rotating and reciprocating equipment vibration and performance analysis support to the CO2 business unit’s operational assets (six Oil & Gas assets and two Midstream assets). This position requires analyzing the health of different types of rotating and reciprocating machinery to proactively identify/predict any machinery and system issues and recommend corrective actions. To be successful in this role, the individual should have experience in the following condition monitoring programs: reciprocating compressor performance analysis, vibration analysis, ultrasonic and lubrication analysis.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate Safe Behavior
  • Ensure proactive, ongoing, high quality customer service is provided to the supported assets.
  • Collects and analyzes reciprocating compressors and engine performance data using a Windrock analyzer.
  • Proficient in interpreting reciprocating compressor PV and PT plots (pressure vs crank angle) and using it to identify system or equipment issues such as valve and packing leaks etc.
  • Collects and analyzes vibration data for rotating/centrifugal machinery such as: split case pumps, H-pumps, vertical pumps, screw and centrifugal compressors, motors, gearboxes etc.
  • Utilizes trends and FFT spectrum to identify equipment issues and provide corrective actions to prevent re-occurrence.
  • Reduces unplanned machinery downtime by making predictions of imminent failures from collected data, as well as diagnosing potential root causes of failure.
  • Utilize process data such as: pressures, temperatures, flows, loads and efficiency etc to determine machinery health.
  • Provide field diagnostics and troubleshooting support to operations and maintenance.
  • Determines vibration collection locations, creates data collection routes and analyzer settings such as Fmax, lines of resolution etc for new and existing equipment.
  • Participates in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and incident investigations when necessary.
  • Utilizes CMMs (Maximo) to generate reports.
  • Other related tasks assigned by the supervisor.

Education: High school diploma is required.

Experience / specific knowledge:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience of reciprocating and centrifugal equipment data collection in process industries: oil and gas, petrochemical industry, pharmaceuticals, pulp and paper etc. A similar experience in other industries will be considered.
  • Experience with Windrock, Resonance and CSI (Emerson) analyzers is preferred. Experience using other types of analyzers will also be considered.
  • Understand the use of crank angle tracking devices, shaft encoder and magnetic pickup.
  • Knowledge of CMMs software (Maximo or SAP).
  • Rudimentary knowledge of oil analysis.

Certifications, licenses, registrations:

  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
  • At least a CAT 1 vibration certification is required. CAT 2 vibration certification is preferred.
  • Reciprocating compressor performance analysis training.
  • MLT level 1 certification is a plus but not required.

Physical demands:

  • Frequent travel to field/plant sites.
  • Walking and standing on platforms and in-between running equipment.
  • Ability to hear communications from others and give input/instructions orally
  • Ability to see in order to observe employees, operations, processes, equipment and facilities.

Working conditions:

  • Field, plant and office environment.
  • Occasional work in adverse weather conditions
  • Working after hours, nights, weekends, holidays and on-call as needed

  • This is a non-exempt position and it is eligible for overtime payment.
