Maintenance Technician

POSITION TITLE:              Maintenance Technician 

CLASSIFICATION:             Exempt

REPORTS TO:                    Property Manager

 

POSITON DESCRIPTION: This position provides Janitorial services, preventative maintenance, general repairs and apartment turnovers. The position serves as a vital link between HOW’s property management team and HOW clients/building residents to ensure a high standard of cleanliness, customer service and hazard-free environment.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

• Maintain all five HOW owned residential properties primarily located in Rogers Park and Evanston.
• Ability to perform general repairs in the building and apartments.
• Flexible, reliable and consistent in delivering high quality services and communication.
• Relate professionally with vendors, residents and co-workers.
• Work in conjunction with the all members of the Housing Department to ensure effective communication.
• Actively participate in Housing Team Meetings, and other relevant HOW meetings and events.
• Complete other duties as assigned.

                                                                                     

Knowledge and Skills:

• Good judgement, organizational and prioritization skills.
• Knowledge of basic building maintenance through training or experience.
• Technical training in building trade preferred.
• Critical thinker and problem solver.
• Excellent Interpersonal skills and able to be an effective team member.
• Knowledge of homelessness and housing issues.
• Comfortable working with a diverse group of people including homeless, LGBT, disabled and protected classes.

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Residential property maintenance experience.

 

Essential Functions Include:

·        Able to lift a minimum of 25lbs and walk up and down stairs

·        Must possess a valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle and proof of automobile insurance

·        Must pass applicable background checks

              

STARTING SALARY $17-$19/hour                                                           WORK SCHEDULE: Full-time

 

DAYS: Variable, Monday through Friday, some weekends              HOURS: 9am-5pm
